Warm Welcome From Fr. Colm and Mrs. Schott
Thank you for your interest in Catholic education. While it is a universal belief that educating children is essential, it is a gift when families place a similar emphasis on the growth and development of their child’s faith. We consider it an honor that you have taken time to research our fine institution. SLKF is located in a long-time beloved area of Metairie that has welcomed many new, young families and new home construction in recent years. Our school is located in the heart of this expanding area and next door to Jefferson Parish’s expansion project along Bonnabel Boat Launch and The Bucktown Harbor. SLKF has been a beacon of Catholic education for students since 1953. The recent development of our neighborhood and surrounding areas brings another surge of hope for our school and parish community. As new, young families fill the neighborhood and surrounding areas, we welcome the growing families into our community with love and open arms.
SLKF is being ushered into a new era under the guidance of Fr. Colm Cahill, SLKF Pastor effective July 1, 2025, and Pamela K. Schott, Head of School since July 2005. Together, they are optimistic about the future of SLKF and look forward to working alongside their team of exceptional ministry leaders, teachers, and staff to aid your child through what can be argued as their most formative years.
SLKF welcomes children 6 weeks old through 7th grade. We pride ourselves in offering individualized care and education to young students in order to provide ample opportunity for them to reach their full potential. Our Little Crusaders Early Childhood Program (6 weeks through PK2) operates year-round (August – July) with hours between 7:30 am and 6 pm. The Little Crusaders Program is filled with wonder and excitement, and we work to ensure each child’s growth in all areas of development by offering a curriculum in PK1 and PK2, enrichment classes (Spanish, Music, and P.E.), prayers, and extra love and care.
St. Louis King of France Catholic School is a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and is Cognia accredited. Our teachers hold degrees and certifications and provide a nurturing environment in which students can learn and thrive. Our rigorous curriculum encompasses both traditional and innovative teaching techniques, and our small class sizes afford students the attention they need to succeed. PK3-7th grade students are introduced to Spanish, Computer, Art, P.E., Music, and Speech and Debate. Several extracurricular activities are offered to our students, including sports, drama, choir, dance, altar servers, various faith clubs, Ambassadors, Student Council, and Sader Snack Club, just to name a few.
It would be an honor to walk you through the halls of our school and provide you with a personal tour as you witness our students and teachers in action. Please take time to call our school office at 504-833-8224 to schedule an appointment to sit with me, Pamela K. Schott, in my office, walk our Crusader hallways, and meet Fr. Colm. We hope you join our community in our efforts every day to crusade on for Christ and others. May God bless you today and always.
Yours In Christ,
Fr. Colm Cahill Pamela Keenan Schott

Meeting Student Needs
St. Louis King of France Catholic School seeks to provide opportunities for all students through the use of various methodologies, programs, activities, interventions, and assessments.
Teachers utilize the most current and effective trends in teaching strategies. Due to the increasing diversity of students in the classroom today, the shift in education has moved from how teachers should teach to how students can learn. The trend in recent years is toward a heterogeneous grouping of students with a curriculum including activities that promote learning through a multi-disciplinary approach. SLKF strives to keep classroom sizes small so that teachers are able to present information to students in ways that best suit their learning needs. SLKF teachers may teach the same lesson in smaller groups of auditory learners, visual learners, etc. Differentiated instruction is a key component of SLKF’s curriculum. Teacher practices at SLKF strongly support student-initiated learning. Students have many opportunities to complete independent projects in a variety of courses at all grade levels.
These include mock elections during political campaigns, authoring, illustrating, and publishing their own book, participating in SLKF’s unique Louisiana Project, family trees, oral histories, recipe booklets, reports, poems, prayers, personal journals, essays, posters, banners, games, models, Mardi Gras floats, independent work on science projects and inventions for exhibit, as well as lab experiments using the discovery method. Peer editing is widely used in creative writing assignments and student publications. Students become involved in decisions regarding their learning experiences by choosing topics for research papers, creative writings, some reading assignments, and scheduling of tests. This allows for individualism and decision-making training.
Cooperative learning techniques are employed in Pre-Kindergarten through seventh grade. Students work in small heterogeneous groups, empowering them to perform a group task. This type of learning is evident in the classroom during activities that include problem-solving, story analysis, creative writing, oral presentations, plays, experimentation, hands-on science lab activities, art projects, and the use of the library and internet to gather information for assignments.
Each school year, seventh-grade students are given an opportunity to enjoy a 5-day trip to Washington, D.C. These trips are intended to engage students in real-life experiences of what they learned in the classroom. SLKF strives to teach students in the classroom while ensuring they can apply that knowledge in the real world.
